Textbooks
Most first-year college students expect to sell their books back and buy
books for the next semester with the money. IT DOESN'T WORK OUT LIKE THAT! Most
schools buy textbooks back for only a fraction of what they charged you for
them. You will recoup some of the money, but not nearly as much as you think you
might. Whenever you're planning your finances, consider textbooks an expense,
often a LARGE expense. But there are ways to save money on textbooks.
-
Buy your textbooks used. Used textbooks are often significantly
cheaper than new ones. Publishers print new editions every few years, so make
sure you have the right edition.
-
Shop around. You can often find
textbooks online for much cheaper
than college bookstore prices.
-
Organize a book exchange. You can set prices to benefit both buyer
and seller: more than what the bookstore buys them for, less than what they
sell them for.
-
